About Me
Hi, I'm Julie
Having practised Pilates for over 15 years and felt its benefits for body and mind I decided to train with Body Control Pilates and become a certified teacher with the Body Control Pilates™ Association – Europe’s leading professional body for Pilates’ teachers - in January 2016. Subsequently, I have completed a number of additional Body Control Pilates courses including Pilates for Bone Health, Pilates for Golfers and Pilates for The Older Person to name a few. I am passionate about Pilates, the benefits it provides and believe it is accessible to everyone. Based in Harpenden, Hertfordshire, I teach a number of mat classes a week for a range of abilities and ages. I pride myself in making sure the exercises are achievable for everyone and offer modifications where needed.

What is Pilates?
Pilates is a unique form of body conditioning exercise that strengthens, tones and lengthens the body whilst strengthening and balancing the mind to body connection. It was created by Joseph Pilates and was originally called ‘Contrology’ until it was later re-named after its creator.   Pilates targets the deep stability muscles, which improve alignment, mobility, posture and general body balance. In a Pilates class we aim to get full range of movement through all of our joints as well as controlled movement patterns in order to use our body to its maximum potential in work and play.
Pilates is a low impact type of exercise that, when taught correctly, is safe for all ages and abilities regardless of size, weight, height and experience, in the right environment Pilates can be beneficial for you.  Pilates is being used more and more by sports professionals, athletes and Physiotherapists for rehab as well as by those of us who just want to keep moving for as long as we possibly can – enjoying life to the full and maximising our own movement potential, mind & body connection and posture.  Pilates is definitely for all.

Private Lessons
If you would like to assess your suitability for a class or look at your movement in more detail, a private one to one lesson may be for you. These lessons allow me to tailor the Pilates to your specific needs taking time to look at any problematic areas and focus on specific joints if need be, or we can just fine-tune your movement skills.
These lessons take place at Clement Studio and cost £55 for a one hour lesson.
Please contact me for more details.
Client Testimonials
I am proud to say that several of us at the 9.30 class on a Wednesday have now been with Julie for 4 years. Speaking for myself & I’m sure the others that I have enjoyed every moment. There are times when we moan that it’s too hard but we all laugh & achieve the task in hand. Julie is a fantastic tutor &. has the patience of a saint putting up with us more mature ladies. Well done Julie.

I have been attending Julie’s Pilates classes for several years now and the exercises have done wonders for my back and general well-being. Classes are conducted in an atmosphere of fun and friendliness while Julie sets an increasingly challenging series of exercises. Thank you for doing such a great job!
Robert Webber
I have been going to Julie Clement’s Pilates classes for several years & love every moment. Recently Julie has been involved in a Falls Prevention course & has now created her own workshop. The concept of the course is to help us older people how to avoid falling & feel more confident & aware of any dangers ahead. This was a fantastic workshop & I would recommend it to anyone.
Janet Coomber
Julie is brilliant ! She explains everything really clearly and takes time checking you are doing all the exercises properly - definitely recommend.
Anna Croxen

In October 2017 a group of golfers of varying flexibilities joined Julie's "Pilates for Golfers" class. Always stretching and mostly enjoyable the variety in the classes has kept bring us back each week and we're still here after 2 years and signing up for the 3rd. What better endorsement could there be

Julie's Pilates classes have been a powerful benefit for me over the last three years. I am more flexible at 60 than I was at 55! Julie flexes exercises, routines and approaches giving something new to learn and enjoy each week. All of this is delivered with a smile, yet with challenge to make sure I am stretched to my personal maximum. Thoroughly recommended. Thank you Julie.
